The Dundee Sports Dinner is one of Dundee’s longest-established fund raising events.
In 1992, Dundee based company, Bett plc introduced to the city to the relatively new concept of a Sportsman’s Dinner to raise funds for the benefit of local sports organisations.
The Betts Sportsman’s Dinner ran every year until 2001 when the parent company sold its Bett Inns division, including the dinner’s venue, the Invercarse Hotel. Keen to see the Dinner continue Betts offered to sponsor the event for the following year before passing over the organisation to a new committee incorporating Redwood Leisure who now own the Invercarse. Redwood approached the then Dundee HSFP Rugby Club to become directly involved as they had been among the original supporters and beneficiaries through the involvement of local businessman and Scottish rugby international David Leslie. Ever since, Dundee Rugby (previously Dundee HSFP Rugby) have been partners in the Dinner and both contribute to and benefit from the Dinner to a significant degree.
In Sept 2002 the first “Dundee Sportsman’s Dinner” (now the Dundee Sports Dinner) was sponsored by Bett plc and since then it has been sponsored and supported by a number of prominent local businesses including PS Ridgway, Fat Sam’s and Insights.

Awards
We have been fortunate to have had the support of many local clubs, at both amateur and professional levels, and many of Dundee’s most successful businesses. The event couldn’t happen without that support.
As well as enjoying an evening of great food, great entertainment and great company, the dinner also recognises the achievements of two local sporting personalities. Every year we present awards to our International Sports personality, Junior Sports personality and Lifetime Achievement Award personality.
