The Dundee Sports Dinner will take place again this September and aims to acknowledge and reward local sports personalities, as well as raise funds for sports clubs in the city.
The 26th annual event goes ahead on Wednesday, 19 September at the Invercarse Hotel featuring two headline speakers – former England cricket captain and Sky Sports cricket anchor David Gower and Scotland goalkeeping legend Alan Rough. Well-known after dinner speaker Willie Allan will once again host the event. Since its launch in 1992, the dinner has raised a total of £400,000 for local sports clubs and groups. Thanks to kind donations and support from event sponsors Thorntons Solicitors, Brewin Dolphin and DWK Office Solutions, last year’s event alone raised £20,000. The 2018 dinner will also see support from new sponsor Fresh Jet Catering Ltd. Organisers and sponsors hope that continuing this annual tradition will help local amateur sports clubs receive the recognition and support they need. As well as the International Sports Personality award, there will also be a presentation to a local junior sportsperson of the year and to someone who has displayed outstanding achievement in sport in the last year. Sandy McDonald, Chair of the dinner’s organising committee, said: “The Dundee Sports Dinner has accomplished so much and we hope 2018 will once again be a fundraising success for worthy clubs and athletes across the city.” To book a table for the Dundee Sports Dinner or find out more about the event, visit www.dundeesportsdinner.co.uk Sports personalities are set to be recognised at the 25th anniversary annual Dundee Sportsman’s Dinner later this year.
The special anniversary event will take place on Wednesday 20 September 2017 at the city’s Invercarse Hotel, and features a strong lineup of sporting legends and headline speakers. Organisers are calling out for nominations for local sportspeople and those who go the extra mile to help clubs and sports groups in the Tayside area grow. This year’s headline speakers include former Wales international Dean Saunders, who played with Liverpool and Aston Villa in the English Premier League in 1990s. He will be joined by one of Scotland's finest After Dinner Speakers, Eric Davidson, who since joining the Scottish After Dinner circuit has picked up several awards along the way. This year will see Willie Allan host the charity dinner again after his success in past years. Gavin Garden, chair of the Dundee Sportsman’s Dinner organising committee, said: “This year the Sportsman’s Dinner is set to be a fantastic event especially since we are celebrating our 25th anniversary. “It’s really important that we get to celebrate local sporting talent and recognise their efforts. I would also like to thank our main sponsors who ensure this event continues, and who without their support we would not be here celebrating 25 years.” The organisers have promised that it will be a truly winning night with great food, entertainment and company.
